Planning Without the Panic: How to Actually Enjoy Booking Your Safari
Is it the constant back-and-forth with the booking team? The ten different options at ten different price points? Or the simple (but stressful) question of which park is better and why?
Let’s be real: travel planning can be a complex mess that overloads the system. That’s totally normal! But how do we combat that?
The Info-Trickle Method
A good travel advisor won’t dump five itineraries on you in five days. They should "trickle" the information to you. The heavy lifting should already be done. Why is this specific option preferred? Does the difference between these two properties really matter? Will the world stop spinning if you don’t go for the luxury option? These are questions your consultant should answer without much effort on your side.
How to Ease the Stress
While your agent handles the logistics, what can you do? Slow and fun research. Throw yourself into the wonderful world of travel destinations! Look up pictures and videos of the safari spots and properties. But the key here is FUN. Don't go looking for that 10-minute, fact-blasting itinerary review. Instead, look for a 5-minute video of lion tracking in Northern Kenya. Watch the hotel’s promotional video, or do a light read of some TripAdvisor reviews if you must get some insight from customers who have stayed where you are going.
Trust Your Agent
Most agents are genuine people who love travel and love to plan the best trips for others. They will do their best to offer you a journey that is both comfortable and fun.
But, do your own "audit" too:
How does their website look?
What are their responses like?
Above all, do they sound like they care?
Follow Your Gut
If you have a bad feeling about an agent or an option, don’t take it. Ask for something different! This is your trip, and you should have it exactly how you want it. If you’re feeling lost, ask for advice on what other clients usually choose or what works well. The "tried and tested" is often easier for both you and the planner.
Remember to Enjoy the Process
Whether this is your once-in-a-lifetime holiday, an anniversary trip, or a big gift to yourself—enjoy the process. Remember to breathe, slow down, and look forward to your adventure!
