A weekend in Nairobi? You have time for a Safari!
We see a lot of business travel to nairobi, maybe you have a conference a meeting or a project check up, and you may only be free for a weekend or so. Can you still make time for a safari?
1. The "Nomad Escape": Nairobi National Park
If you only have a single day, Nairobi National Park is the world’s only wildlife capital, and while a game drive may only be 4 or 5 hrs you can pair it up to get a whole half or full day experience.
The Experience: Start with a sunrise drive to catch the lions while the city skyline glows in the distance.
The Purpose: Pair your drive with a visit to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to meet the orphaned elephants, then head to the Kazuri Beads workshop. Supporting these local artisans is the perfect way to bring a piece of Kenyan soul home with you.
2. Two Wheels and Tall Gorges: Hell’s Gate & Lake Naivasha
Located just 90 minutes from the city, Hell’s Gate is for the traveler who wants to feel the earth under their feet (or bike tires), not to mention this gives you an opportunity to drive along the escarpment and see the great rift valley.
The Vibe: This is one of the few parks where you can cycle past zebra and buffalo. It’s raw, active, and exhilarating.
The Detox: After hiking through the ancient red-walled canyons, head to the Olkaria Natural Geothermal Spa. Soaking in those mineral-rich turquoise waters is the ultimate way to wash off any stress.
The Water: Finish with a sunset boat ride on Lake Naivasha to watch the hippos claim the night.
3. The Rhino Sanctuary: Lake Nakuru
A 4-hour drive takes you into a different world entirely. Lake Nakuru is a masterclass in conservation and one of the best places in Kenya to spot both Black and White Rhinos.
The Stay: This is the perfect "overnight" destination. We recommend staying in one of the luxury eco-camps overlooking the lake. There is nothing quite like watching the sunrise over a pink-shored lake from the comfort of a canvas suite.
The Wildlife: Beyond rhinos, keep your eyes peeled for leopards and the rare Rothschild’s giraffe.
4. Night Visions: Lake Elementaita & Soysambu Conservancy
For those looking for something truly unique, the Soysambu Conservancy on the shores of Lake Elementaita offers a unique experience you won’t find in the bigger parks.
The Highlight: Because it's a private conservancy, you can head out on night game drives. Seeing the bush come alive under a spotlight is a transformative experience.
The Conservation: Spend your weekend watching the flamingos paint the lake pink while knowing your stay supports vital habitat protection.
Your Weekend, Your Story
Whether it’s a 24-hour dash or a 2-night luxury retreat, the Kenyan bush is closer than you think. Don't just fly over the savanna—immerse yourself in it.
