Sand Rivers Selous (4 Nights)
Overview: Sand Rivers Selous is so much part of the Rufiji’s ebb and flow that it seems almost moored on the banks, with one side entirely open to the river. Views across its brown, swirling waters call to mind adventure movies from another time. Indeed, in the early days, the lodge pioneered legendary foot safaris, and life in and around the lodge is as action-packed and exciting as the fizzing natural world around it. Sand Rivers Selous has an open-fronted lounge and dining, with communal and private dining available. Its sprawling decks provide excellent river views throughout. There is one large central pool with a surrounding lounge area, and three private pools.
Accommodations: The camp has five open-fronted riverside rooms with panoramic river views, each with en-suite bathrooms. Additionally, there are three hillside suites that each have adjoining lounge and living areas, with surrounding decking and private plunge pools.
Unique Experiences:
Legendary Foot Safaris: Experience the ultimate safari holy grail: see, and not be seen. Walk into a good position, staying hidden in vegetation-fringed rivers and floodplains, then emerge into a secret world.
Diverse Water Safaris: Head upstream by boat, dodging hippopotami; let the current spiral you back to the lodge, as Africa drifts by. See elephant herds and shining flocks of great white pelicans in secluded floodplains.
"Random Acts of Wilderness": Enjoy unique experiences like breakfast on a sandbar in a crocodile-crowded river, swimming under palm trees in hot spring rock pools, or boating up the spectacular Steiglers Gorge.
Fly-Camping at Sand Rivers: Nights out of camp and under the stars are our most complete expression of how Nomad relates to Wilderness. It’s very simple: to truly connect with the African bush, just put yourself right out there in a safe and comfortable fly-camp.
